Who we are
GEARMATH is an independent film gear encyclopedia. Contact: partnerships@gearmath.com.
GEARMATH (gearmath.com) is an independent reference site for film and video equipment. For anything about your data, email partnerships@gearmath.com.
What we collect when you browse
We keep first-party usage statistics in our own database: the page path, page title, referrer, browser user agent, device type, country (country only, never city or precise location) and random session and visitor IDs kept in your browser storage. We also record search queries typed into site search, and counts of which items, rental houses and retailer links are viewed and clicked. We do not store your IP address in these records.
Country is worked out once per visit by asking ipapi (ipapi.co), a third-party IP lookup service. Your browser sends that request directly, so ipapi receives your IP address and returns a country, which we keep in session storage. If the lookup fails, no country is recorded.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-0W637716NY, on gearmath.com only) only if you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner. Until you accept, Google consent mode keeps analytics storage switched off, and advertising storage is always off. After you accept, Google's cookies (_ga, _ga_*) measure visits; Google processes this data under its own terms: policies.google.com/privacy.
Outbound links and click counts
When you click a retailer, manufacturer or rental house link we record which link, which item page, the retailer or rental house, the time, your country code and the random session ID, so we can see which links are useful. No personal profile is built.
Affiliate links and retailer cookies
When you follow an affiliate link, the retailer or its affiliate network (for example Awin, Impact, CJ, Rakuten or Amazon Associates) may set a cookie in your browser so it can credit the sale to GEARMATH. Those cookies are set by them, under their own privacy policies, not by GEARMATH. See our Affiliate disclosure.
Things you send us
Suggestions, corrections, project submissions, rental house claims and MiniDV waitlist sign-ups: we keep what you submit, including any email address you give, only to deal with that submission or that list, and you can ask us to delete it. To stop spam, suggestions also store a one-way hash of your IP address, your browser user agent and country, never the IP address itself.

Who processes data for us
Our website hosting provider and our database provider (Supabase), Google Analytics (only with consent) and the ipapi IP country lookup. We don't sell or share personal data for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep usage and click records only for site statistics and delete them when they are no longer needed. We review stored records at least once a year. Submissions are kept until dealt with or until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for access, correction or deletion, object to processing, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Email partnerships@gearmath.com.
