B-Mount vs V-Mount vs Gold Mount

V-Mount (Sony's design) and Gold Mount (Anton Bauer's 3-stud design) are both 14.4 V nominal and do the same job; which one you use mostly depends on the plate on your camera and what the rental house stocks. B-Mount, introduced by ARRI and Anton Bauer, runs at 26 V nominal for high-draw cameras such as the ALEXA 35 and ALEXA Mini LF.

At the same power, a 26 V pack delivers roughly half the current of a 14.4 V pack. That means less heat, thinner cables and less voltage drop, which is why power-hungry cameras and accessories moved to B-Mount. The trade-off is that 26 V packs only work on gear rated for that voltage, or through a converter.
